Steve Lavin is weighing whether to have surgery or try radiation treatments for his prostate cancer, and he expects to make a decision and commence treatment within the first 10 days of October.

"After the most recent consultation, my doctors feel at this point that the active surveillance approach is off the table," Lavin said Saturday. "So that narrows the treatment options to surgery or radiation. The advantage of early detection is that we have these options that can assist in leading to a cancer-free life."

The Sioux Falls Skyforce announced today that Anthony Mason, Jr. has signed a contract with the NBA Development League and will report to training camp with the Skyforce in early November.

Mason, Jr. averaged 15.1 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 14 games (all starts) with the Skyforce last season before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. He participated in training camp with the Miami Heat last fall and averaged 4.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in three preseason games. The 6-7, 215-pound forward was named All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention following his junior season at St. John’s after averaging a team-high 14.0 points and 4.4 rebounds.

Kyle Anderson, the No. 5 overall prospect in the class of 2012, committed to UCLA on Monday.

Anderson chose UCLA over Seton Hall, Georgetown, Florida and St. John's.

Anderson is a 6-foot-7 small forward who is largely known for his passing ability.

Anderson is thought to be close to Shabazz Muhammad, the nation's top prospect. "Bazz has to make his own decision based on what's best for him," Anderson said. "I do hope he comes, though."
